Los Alamitos police blotter, May 10 to May 19

May 10, 2013

VANDALISM TO A VEHICLE – 3:48pm – Katella Ave. - Two pickup trucks were caught on video surveillance cameras attempting to siphon gas from the business’s van. Report taken.
CITIZEN ASSIST – 4:44pm – Oak St. – The caller’s five-year-old daughter was locked in the bathroom at the location. The door must be manually unlocked from inside in order to open. The child got scared and was unable to unlock it. Assisted.

ASSIST OUTSIDE AGENCY – 7:50pm – Oak St. – Redondo Beach Police Department requested a drive-by to see if a white Chevy van was at the location. The vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run at 6pm that evening. Police contacted the subject’s wife and advised her to have him call RBPD as soon as he arrived.
COUNSELING – 11:04pm – Denwood Ave. - A subject was sending threatening messages to the caller. The caller was advised to recall if text continued. Extra patrol checks were requested regarding the subject coming to the house.

May 12, 2013

DISTURBANCE (Subject) – 12:04am – Lexington Dr. - A subject tried to blow past the main gate and drove through several stop signs on the base. Security had him detained and cuffed. Police conducted a field sobriety test. One subject arrested for DUI.
CITIZEN ASSIST – 12:26am – Katella Ave. - The caller picked up his cousin’s friend, who had been drinking, from a party. The subject had a head injury from a fight and was refusing to go to the hospital. The caller did not know what to do with him. He didn’t want to leave him there as he was too drunk to take care of himself. The subject eventually was admitted to the hospital but refused to make a police report. He was advised to report to the Anaheim Police Department if he desired prosecution at a later date. The subject’s mother was contacted and picked him up.

May 13, 2013

COUNSELING – 5:32pm – 5100 block of Katella Ave. - The caller gave $20 for gas, but it went to the wrong pump, and that customer used that credit to pump their gas. The clerk would not reimburse the money. Counseled.
DUI – 9:38pm – Los Alamitos/Katella - A white Toyota was swerving all over the road on eastbound Katella. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

May 14, 2013

EXTRA PATROL CHECKS – 11:52am – 3700 block of Howard Ave. - The neighbors’ locks were cut off their garages. One neighbor possibly had a loss but was not going to report it.
TRAFFIC COLLISION – 2:51pm – Katella/Siboney - The caller hit a juvenile on a skateboard. The juvenile refused medical attention but had abrasions on the arms and the skateboard was damaged. The caller gave the juvenile money for a new skateboard.

PEDESTRIAN CHECK – 7:38am – Cerritos/Los Alamitos - Police issued two students citations for underage smoking. Both students were brought to the assistant principal’s office for counseling and discipline.
EXTRA PATROL CHECK – 12:59pm – 10400 block of Los Alamitos Blvd. - While picking up her kids in the parking lot, the caller was approached by a suspicious subject who came out of nowhere and tried to get the caller to open her car door. When the caller told him to go away, he just stood and stared at her. Beat unit advised.

May 16, 2013

CITIZEN ASSIST – 4:07pm – 3500 block of Katella Ave. - The caller was a caregiver for a subject who had been refusing to get into the vehicle for two hours. The caller requested police assist him with trying to get the subject into the vehicle.
VICIOUS ANIMAL – 5:47pm – 3500 block of Howard Ave. - A large dog was on the caller’s porch, and the caller’s husband was not able to get into the apartment. The dog wouldn’t move and didn’t look friendly. Long Beach Animal Control was notified, and the dog returned home.

May 17, 2013

ILLEGAL DUMPING – 11:51am – Toland Ave. - A subject dumped a gunch of trees at the fenceline of the park. Police arrived and contacted the subject, who was already picking the items back up after he realized it was not a valid place to dump.
PETTY THEFT REPORT – 4:13pm – Cherry St. - The caller’s roommate was asked to leave the location the night before and afterwards the caller realized the subject possibly stole the caller’s necklaces. No report desired.

May 19, 2013

FOUND PROPERTY – 11:11am – Tarawa Dr. - A purse and its contents were found strewn about in front of the caller’s residence. The property was returned to the owner, who appeared to be the victim of a petty theft from her unlocked vehicle, but she was not missing any of her property since the bag was returned. No report desired.
MUNICIPAL CODE VIOLATION – 1:08pm – Bunker Hill Dr. - Three males were going door to door trying to sell manure without a permit. Party advised and will comply.
